Great for kids and beginners.","totalDurationSeconds":671,"difficulty":"easy","tools":["black fine point permanent marker","pencil and eraser (optional)"],"materials":["drawing paper or colored pencil pad","colored pencils or washable markers"],"steps":[{"number":1,"title":"Draw the Penguin's Eyes With Shiny Highlights","text":"Near the middle of your paper, draw two circles with a space between them. These are the penguin's eyes. Inside each one, draw a small circle at the top right and an even smaller one at the bottom left. Those are the light reflections that make the eyes look shiny and happy. Now color in the big circles black, but leave the little ones white."},{"number":2,"title":"Draw the Penguin's Beak Between the Eyes","text":"Right in the middle, between the two eyes, draw a small U shape. Then connect the top of the U with a gentle curve. That closed shape is the penguin's beak. Keep it small and low, level with the bottom of the eyes. A little beak is what makes this penguin look like a baby. You will color it orange at the end."},{"number":3,"title":"Draw the Round Penguin Face Around the Eyes","text":"Start beside one eye. Draw a big U shape that curves down under the beak and comes back up beside the other eye. Then draw a rainbow line over the top of the eyes to close the shape. Now you have a round face. This is the white part of the penguin, so give it plenty of room around the eyes and beak."},{"number":4,"title":"Add the Penguin's Black Head Cap Line","text":"Look at the top of the face, right between the eyes. Draw a small U that dips down and comes back up to the top line. This marks where the black feathers on the penguin's head stop. When you color the top black later, this line blends in and the penguin looks like it is wearing a little cap."},{"number":5,"title":"Draw the Outer Penguin Body Outline","text":"Now draw another U on the outside of the face. Start next to one eye, come down and around the bottom, and come back up next to the other eye. Leave a gap between this line and the face. Close the top with a rainbow line, the same way you did before. That gap becomes the black feathers around the white face."},{"number":6,"title":"Draw the Penguin's Flippers on Both Sides","text":"On one side of the body, about level with the eyes, draw a little sideways V. It comes out from the body to a point and goes back in. That is one flipper. Draw a matching V on the other side so the two flippers are the same size. Point them slightly down so the penguin looks like it is waving."},{"number":7,"title":"Draw the Penguin's Feet Under the Body","text":"At the bottom of the body, draw a small V shape that comes out and back in. That is one foot. Draw a second one next to it so the penguin has two feet. Keep them short and wide. Now the line drawing of the penguin is done. You can add extras here too. The dad adds eyelashes and a little flower on top of the head."},{"number":8,"title":"Draw the Top of the Ice Block Under the Penguin","text":"On each side of the penguin, draw a short line coming out. From each line, draw a sideways M or W shape that goes in, out and back in. At the bottom, add a little zigzag on both sides and connect them under the feet. This shape is the flat top of the ice block the penguin is standing on."},{"number":9,"title":"Add 3D Edges to the Penguin's Ice Block","text":"From each outside corner of the ice top, draw a short line straight down. Keep them all the same length. Then connect the bottoms of those lines with lines that match the shape above them. Finish with one long curve across the front. These edges give the ice block thickness and make it look 3D. Leave this part off if it is too tricky."},{"number":10,"title":"Color the Penguin Black, Orange and Blue","text":"Color the head cap, the outer body and the flippers black. Leave the round face white. Use orange for the beak and the feet, and pink for rosy cheeks. Color the sides of the ice block blue and leave the top white so it looks like snow. Colored pencils work great, and markers are faster if you have a lot of black to fill."}],"recipe":null,"lastUpdated":"2026-10-03T16:46:48.807Z","published":"2026-10-03T16:45:55.631Z","license":"CC BY 4.0.
